I try to keep this blog focused on things related to customer service, and I’m always on the lookout for great stories, new trends and new technologies. Although some people try to overcomplicate customer service, the fact is that it all boils down to one single and simple word. Care. When customers believe that you or your organization genuinely care about them and are looking out for their best interests, they will say they had a great customer experience.
Well, the story that came across my desk today actually isn’t a customer service story, but it so well encapsules the philosophy of service that I had to share. (I’m not the only one sharing – it’s going viral as I am tying this). This may be the most heart-warming story of the year.
A family from Rowan County, North Carolina, was out at a restaurant with their special-needs son. He is eight years old, and has some pretty serious challenges, including being non-verbal. Apparently he was causing a bit of a ruckus in the restaurant, and his parents were about to leave when the waitress came over. “I’ll try to do this without crying,” she told them. “But another customer has paid for your bill tonight and wanted me to give you this note.”
The note read: “God only gives special children to special people.”
Wow. Just…wow.
